It stood on an island and <strong>guided <\/strong>ships into Alexandria&#8217;s <strong>harbour<\/strong>.  It was <strong>constructed <\/strong>around 200 <strong>B.C<\/strong>, and lasted over 1500 years before it <strong>collapsed <\/strong>after an <strong>earthquake <\/strong>in the 14th <strong>century<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Now, 22 blocks of the ancient lighthouse have been <strong>recovered <\/strong>from the ocean floor, including pieces from a <strong>huge <\/strong>doorway. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>French and Egyptian <strong>archaeologists <\/strong>plan to <strong>scan <\/strong>the recovered blocks and <strong>attempt <\/strong>to digitally <strong>reconstruct <\/strong>the lighthouse. <strong>Based on<\/strong> historical <strong>records<\/strong>, over a hundred blocks have already been <strong>digitized<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The ancient <strong>structure <\/strong>was over a hundred metres high, one of the tallest objects of the ancient world. The <strong>beam of light<\/strong> to guide ships was produced by a fire made of wood.
