A new study<\/a> shows that students around the world lost about a third of a year’s learning due to<\/a> the COVID pandemic<\/a>. 15 countries were examined<\/a>, most of them in the western world.<\/p>\n\n

During the first year of the pandemic, many countries closed down their schools in an attempt<\/a> to slow the spreading<\/a> of the virus. Learning from home led to many problems. <\/p>\n\n

The report states<\/a> that distance learning<\/a> led to a wider gap<\/a> between students from different social classes. In families where internet access<\/a> was bad or not available<\/a>, students fell behind most. Children in developing countries<\/a> and low-income<\/a> families were hit the hardest by the pandemic. <\/p>\n\n

According to<\/a> the study, pupils had trouble in math and reading. Many schools offered summer tutoring<\/a> programs to help close the gap. <\/p>\n\n

In addition<\/a>, as schools started opening up again, many children had problems getting together with their classmates and resuming<\/a> normal school life. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
