It is a time during which people <strong>celebrate <\/strong>the <strong>victory <\/strong>of light over darkness and good over <strong>evil<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diwali usually lasts five days. Families clean their homes and <strong>decorate <\/strong>them with small oil lamps (called <em>diyas<\/em>), candles, and colourful art called <em>rangoli<\/em>. At night, people light fireworks and enjoy sweet <strong>treats <\/strong>like <em>ladoo <\/em>and <em>barfi<\/em>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Many people pray to Lakshmi, the <strong>goddess <\/strong>of <strong>wealth<\/strong>, and hope for <strong>good fortune<\/strong> in the following year. Friends and families also <strong>exchange gifts <\/strong>and wear new clothes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diwali is not only celebrated in India. People in Nepal, Sri Lanka, and countries like the UK, USA, Canada, and Australia also enjoy the festival. In these places, there are <strong>public events<\/strong> with music, dancing, food, and fireworks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Diwali is a time for happiness, hope, and <strong>togetherness<\/strong>.
