President Donald Trump has started building a large ballroom at the White House. The new ballroom will replace <\/strong>the East Wing, which was recently <\/strong>torn down. The 90,000 square feet ballroom is the size of a football field and can hold up to a thousand guests. The project will probably cost about $300 million, but Trump says private donors<\/strong>, including himself, will pay for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The offices of the First Lady, the White House Visitor’s Office and others were located <\/strong>in the building. Many organizations have criticized the demolition <\/strong>of the building, saying it\u2019s part of history. Trump\u2019s team, however<\/strong>, claims <\/strong>they didn\u2019t need special permission <\/strong>to tear it down.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

At first, the President said the old building would stay. Later, he changed his mind, saying it had to be removed <\/strong>in order to make the new ballroom safer. The new construction <\/strong>will have bulletproof <\/strong>windows and modern security <\/strong>features.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Supporters of the project say that the White House needs more room to host <\/strong>big events. Critics say it looks too much like Trump\u2019s private resorts <\/strong>and doesn\u2019t fit the style of the historic building.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The new ballroom is expected to be finished before Trump\u2019s second term <\/strong>ends in 2029.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
