Venice is one of the world\u2019s most iconic <\/strong>cities, famous for its canals and history, but mass tourism has created big problems. About 20 million visitors come every year, which affects local <\/strong>life, the environment<\/strong>, and historic buildings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the past years, Venice has managed <\/strong>to take some measures <\/strong>to cope <\/strong>with mass tourism. \u00a0In 2021 authorities <\/strong>started banning \u00a0<\/strong>large cruise ships from coming into the city centre. These ships now dock <\/strong>outside Venice, which helps protect the canals and old buildings from damage.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last year, Venice\u2019s city leaders started charging <\/strong>a fee <\/strong>for day visitors. If you visit Venice just for the day, you now have to pay \u20ac5 to enter. This is being done to reduce <\/strong>the number of visitors to the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Tour groups are now limited <\/strong>to 25 people, and loudspeakers are banned. This makes the city quieter and less crowded <\/strong>. In addition<\/strong>, technology <\/strong>is used to track <\/strong>how many people are visiting and tries to spread them out<\/strong> over various <\/strong>parts of the city . Some of these measures <\/strong>are not popular among tourists, but they show Venice is serious <\/strong>about preserving <\/strong>its unique <\/strong>character.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
