They are hard to find in large amounts, which makes them <strong>valuable<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Such metals are used in many things we use every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>They help make screens brighter and speakers louder in smartphones and computers.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Strong <strong>magnets <\/strong>in electric cars and <strong>wind turbines<\/strong> use rare earth metals to make these machines work better.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Some of these metals are used in <strong>medical equipment<\/strong>, like X-rays and MRI <strong>scanners<\/strong>.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The\u00a0military uses them to make <strong>advanced weapons<\/strong> and communication systems.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Without rare earth metals, many high-tech products wouldn\u2019t work. As more and more people buy electric cars and use <strong>renewable energy<\/strong>, the <strong>demand <\/strong>for rare earth metals keeps <strong>increasing<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>On the other hand, <strong>mining <\/strong>rare earth metals <strong>poses <\/strong>problems for the <strong>environment <\/strong>if it is not done carefully. China <strong>dominates <\/strong>the market and controls over 70% of the <strong>supply <\/strong>of rare earth metals.
